A genre refers to a specific type or style of book. Generally, genres will share a number of similar traits, like fire-breathing dragons in fantasy or masked killers in horror. Knowing what genres are can help us find a book we might like. If we know that we like stories that move fast, for instance, we know that we can pick up an adventure book and for the most part, we'll find a book that has a fast-paced plot.
